Procedures

How do I place an order?

Choose and configure the server that you want from our 'Hosting Services' page and click the "Order Server" button. Alternatively, you can call us during normal business hours.

For a custom design, you can use the managed hosting quote form as well or just send an email with your server specifications to our sales department.

How can I pay for the service?

We accept Checks and Money Orders for orders based in the United States, as well as the following credit cards for all orders:

What is the minimum contract period?

The default contracts are month to month, however we also have longer term contracts that offer lower rates than the default contract.

What is 95th Percentile Bandwidth billing?

The per Mbps bandwidth is based upon 5 minute averages of your actual usage, then subjected to 95th percentile adjustment. You pay based on this average in 1 Mbps increments at a set rate, depending on your commitment level.

Here's how it works: We sample your actual usage every 5 minutes, we then average the total and post the result as a 5 minute usage point on your usage graph. Over the month, we will continue to plot the 5 minute averages, which total about 8,640 points plotted on the graph. We then take the top 5 percent of your usage (432 points) and throw it out! Your usage is determined based upon the highest remaining usage plotted. If your usage is at or lower than your committed bandwidth AFTER we've taken off the top 5%, you will not receive any additional billing. Any usage over the minimum will be billed at the appropriate rate.

You are automatically placed on a burstable 100 Mbps link. You'll be able to monitor your bandwidth usage to understand exactly what your usage is. At the beginning of the following month, you will get a bill for actual 95th percentile usage.

This method of billing provides you with a number of advantages. First, this equates to receiving your highest 36 hours of bandwidth usage free each month. Second, like our network, our billing is scaleable - the cost of entry is reduced and your bill will only increase as actual bandwidth usage occurs. Finally, you only pay for the higher of the upstream or downstream traffic.

Can my hardware be upgraded after I order?

Yes. For dedicated servers we will purchase and install the hardware for you. The cost will be only an increased monthly fee. For colocation, you provide the hardware, and the cost is only the labor for the installation.

How much do additional IP addresses cost?

Additional IP addresses are available in blocks of 8 addresses, and each block costs $15/month.

Hardware

What happens if anything goes wrong with the server hardware?

MaxNOC is responsible for the dedicated server hardware and if a fault ever developed we would repair or replace the server at our own expense.

Can I upgrade the server at any time?

You can always upgrade your server hardware to a higher platform. There are no contracts that will bound you to the dedicated server you ordered. You can upgrade whenever you want to or need to.

Will I have the ability to remotely reboot my server?

Yes, you can order remote reboot ports while configuring your dedicated server. Then all you need is to login to your account and select the server you would like to reboot.

Can I have a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device?

Yes, you can include a NAS device while you configure your server.

Can you build a custom dedicated server?

You can customize your server via our hosting configuration wizard. If you can't find the hardware options you need, simply request a dedicated server quote to get specific pricing for the hardware you need.

Operating System

Can you install Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition

Yes, simply select the Enterprise option while you are configuring your dedicated server. Other Windows Server distributions are also availabe.

Can you install my favorite Linux/BSD Distribution?

We already offer a variety of Linux and BSD distributions. If yours is not in the list, please let us know and we will take care of it.

Do you have a server plan for Coldfusion MX Server?

Do you have a server plan for Microsoft SQL Server?

I need a Microsoft License that is not listed on your website?

MaxNOC is a registered member of the Microsoft SPLA program and we are able to provide you most of the Microsoft Licenses for a small monthly fee. Please contact your sales agent with the details of your requirements to get a custom quote.

Can I use my server as a game server?

Of course. We have no problems at all if you want to operate your server as a game server.

What if I mess up the operating system?

If the problem is completely software related, you can request a fresh re-install from MaxNOC for a flat rate of $100 per server.

What software can I install?

Anything you want to, as long as it is not illegal!

Can I compile my own Kernel on your Linux Dedicated Servers?

Yes, absolutely! You will be granted root access to you server, which gives you the ability to configure your server however you desire.

Infrastructure

How fast is your network connection?

Faster than your previous hosting company, or your money back. Hopefully, that will give you an idea of how fast it is. For technical yada-yada please visit the infrastructure pages.

Can I colocate my own server?

Of course, you can have more information on the colocation pages.

Does MaxNOC provide DNS service?

Yes. If you would like, we can handle all of the DNS service for your domains. If you would like a specific reverse lookup, we can configure that as well.

Can I use MaxNOC as my secondary DNS?

Yes. If you would like to run the primary DNS, we will happily set up secondary DNS.

Are there restrictions on the content I can keep on my dedicated server?

As long as the material or content does not violate the United States Laws, you can upload any type of content that you want on your dedicated server.

If I need help in the middle of the night, will someone be able to help me?

Yes. You can either submit your request via Account Center or call us.

Can you manage my server for me?

Sure, managing our customers' server is what we do.
